Last weekend was quite an eventful one. We hung out with Taxpayer for the majority of it. Thursday (5/7) was the second installment of our New Alliance Sessions. Everybody had a blast and we’ll be sharing some of those recordings with you next week. On Friday, we got our dance on at The Pill, and then Saturday we returned to Great Scott for The Everyday Visuals’ CD release party. I’ll be posting some pictures from those GS shows soon.

On Sunday, Robby Roadsteamer and Nikki from Where the Land Meets the Sea joined Dave and me in the studio. Robby and Nikki have started a new band called Super Time Pilot, and they stopped by to bless us with live renditions of some tunes from their upcoming release as well as Robby’s last one, I Solved Every Miniquest.

The no-sleep, non-stop pandemonium that tends to come with May continues this week, and here’s where to find us.

New England Product’s Week in Local Rock

Wed. 5/13

Hennessey’s - WFNX and Bacardi present Red in Reverse and All These Kings

Thurs., 5/14

TT the Bear’s - Hands & Knees, Why Oak, Mr. Sister

Fri., 5/15

The Middle East Upstairs - That Handsome Devil, Peelander-Z, Math the Band, Asthmatics

Sat., 5/16

PA’s Lounge - Frank Black Tribute Night w/Big Disappointments, Doomstar, Tony the Bookie Orchestra, Choo Choo La Rouge

Great Scott - Prom Party w/The Campaign for Real-Time, The Gondoliers, DJ Mr. Ni$e

And of course on Sun., 5/17, Dave Duncan will be spinning the newest, best local tunes for you on WFNX from 11 – midnight. It’s also my birthday, so you should all call in and sing to me.

xoxo

Happy hump day, New England Product darlings. I hope this surprisingly sunny day finds you well. It finds me stealing wireless from a local bar, where I’m nursing a Cinco de Hangover with an endless supply of diet coke.

Recently, Dave and I were joined in the studio by The Everyday Visuals. In between slamming cans of Red Bull Cola and daring us to do other stupid things around the studio, Kyle and Christopher discussed their new self-titled album. They are celebrating its release on Saturday, 5/9 at Great Scott with Taxpayer and Tiny Animals. I really can’t say enough about how great these guys are live, so just trust me and check it out. You can also check out some of their videos and MP3s at www.jilliansara.com.

Hello my favorite Products of New England! This NEP update is coming to you a bit later in the week than usual, because I just got my computer back from the repair shop this evening. Luckily, it is running better than it has in a really long time, and I even got my X key replaced… making it much easier to type things like “WFNX” and “Sandbox.”

I hope you’ll forgive me now for throwing in a little shameless self promotion. I recently started my very own website. “One in a Million Media” is a blog of music, videos, images, and more. I’ve been lucky enough to receive a bunch of exclusive features from both local and national acts.

Happy Passover/Easter/assorted other Springtime holidays, New England Products! I hope you feasted on tons of chocolate and cute baby animals. I’m not sure why we celebrate religious holidays with gluttony, but it works for me.

Last night, Dave Duncan and I were joined in the studio by Harris. Normally, it makes us incredibly happy to hang with the Harris dudes. However, the reason for their visit this week is to tell us about their final show. While this is a tragic occurrence, it’s sure to be a fantastic show. Make sure you’re at the Middle East Downstairs next Saturday 4/18 to say goodbye to Harris, welcome back to Scamper (it’s their reunion show), and hello to Jericho Trumpet (if you haven’t already). Tickets are $10 in advance and are available at the Middle East box office and ticketmaster.com. I recommend buying them in advance, as it is VERY likely this show will sell out.

What is that people say about March? It comes in like a lion and out like a lamb? We might be out of the winter but it doesn’t look like April is going to be mellow here at New England Product. Dave Duncan & I are expecting new releases and shows from quite a few of our favorite local artists. In addition, we’ll be visited in the studio by…

Hello hello, my favorite products of New England. How is this relapse of winter treating you? I haven’t let the cold weather keep me from clutching cold PBRs at lots of great local events. Among other things, I hit up the Privus 1st Anniversary Party and the debut performance from Lindsey Starr & The Chemical Smiles last week. Pictures from these events and more will be posted soon, in case you missed them.

If you missed last week’s show, you can check out the playlist here.

This weekend, it’s supposed to be 50+ degrees. Put on something cute and meet me at one of these events!

Great Scott - Influenza 2.0. Girls Guns & Glory, Lipbone Redding, and The Molenes play a mix of originals and covers that have influenced them.

OBrien’s - Ketman, I Am David Sparkle, You Need New Glasses

Great Scott - Where the Land Meets the Sea, This Car Up, Hot Box

Speaking of Where the Land Meets The Sea, a little bit of internet digging will dig up a funny video Nikki recently made with Robby Roadsteamer. I’ll see if I can find it to share with you soon.

Well, it’s time for me to learn how to clone myself so I can be at both Great Scott and O’Brien’s this evening. If you know how, I’ll buy you a beer.

Dave Duncan & I will be back next Sunday at 11 PM, bringing you the newest and best local rock on wfnx. Have a good weekend!

My dear Products of New England, I have to admit: I have no sense of time or the calendar. I’m still blaming daylight savings time, but I woke up today and realized I owed you a blog.

First off, our dear friends in Thick as Thieves recently were robbed. Two pieces of equipment with great sentimental value were stolen, and the guys are absolutely heartbroken. There is no way they could put a dollar figure on the value of this gear, but they are willing to provide a reward for information leading to its return.

This guitar originally belonged to one of their fathers. It’s a '72 era Gibson SG Deluxe w/ a Bigsby tremolo..

Marshall 1976 50 watt Super Lead. The only thing unique that a thief wouldn't know off the bat is the fact that the ohm selector switch on the back is hard-wired to be in one position (not sure which - whatever ohms you need to run a single 4x12 cab) The lettering of Marshall is not complete and chipped off in the center.

If you have any information on this missing gear, please e-mail Aaron at forwordslost at gmail.com.

Now onto some happier news, upcoming events!

Thurs., 3/19

Great Scott - TAB the Band, Casey Desmond

Privus Lounge - Privus 1st Anniversary Party! Zak Broman and Michael V from the Pill will be spinning, there will be a fantastic runway show and visuals. And of course, delicious sushi.

Fri., 3/20

Middle East Upstairs - Common Thrill, The Energy, Hello Mahalo

Great Scott - The Pill, featuring The Toothaches

The Old Court (Lowell) - Apple Betty

Sat., 3/21

O’Brien’s - Lindsey Starr & The Chemical Smiles (debut show), Karen Barnicle, David Jackel, DJ Ken

Bill’s Bar - Air Traffic Controller

Happy Oscar week, NE Products. I hope you’re staying warm and cozy, counting down the days til spring. It’s a good thing February is so short.

Last night, Ryan Lee Crosby joined us in the studio along with his drummer Dan. Ryan and Dan came by with a copy of their new album, Out To Dry. Dave and I have been playing “Nicoline” for you for a bit, and now you can pick up your very own copy at The Middle East Upstairs on Friday, 2/27. If you want to preview the record, go hang out at River Gods on Tuesday (2/24). Dewars will be sponsoring the listening party, and then Ryan will also be spinning some personal faves, so go have a few drinks and check out the new tracks.

Dan, Dave, Ryan.

How did you celebrate the end of '08? I had the unfortunate experience of ringing in 2009 with the flu, as did just about everybody I know. Dave Duncan one-upped us by contracting both the last recorded of 2008 and first recorded of 2009 case of strep throat, though, so I guess I shouldn't complain. We still managed to rally, though, and spent the first moments of the new year with great friends. I hope you had the same experience - the partying, not the sickness.

Now that the holidays are over, we're back to having loads of local shows for you to spend your gift money on. Too bad gift cards aren't typically given for PBRs...

Upcoming local shows, week of 1/4/08

Tues., 1/6

Your television: Bang Camaro on Conan O'Brien (12:35 AM, NBC)!
