Mega Robo Thunder Phone Query - Are Rats Really That Bad?

The Boston Phoenix ran a story about the influx of rats in the Allston and Downtown Crossing areas and exposed some of the causes.

For years rats have been blamed for everything from the bubonic plague to electrical fires.  

Are rats getting a bum rap?

Aren't they just ugly squirrels?  Aren't pigeons just as bad?

  Wild rats are gross and they do gross things too. So I had a friend that had a problem with rats in her garage so what she did was put rat poison out for them. She left it alone for about a week and went back to find a pile of rat heads where she left the poison. apparently what happened was that one rat eats the poison dies. Another rat comes by and see dead rat eats dead rat and then dies to. so on and so forth till there is a pile of rat head. Not a pleasant sight to see and learned that rats are very cannibalistic.
