All day this Saturday, WFNX Radio becomes Radio Clash.
To mark the tenth anniversary of the death of JOE STRUMMER, guitarist of THE CLASH who died on December 22, 2002 at the age of 50, at midnight tonight WFNX kicks off a 24-hour run of the legendary guitarist's work. One-time WFNX jock Morning Guy Tai holds court during the entire day, spinning Clash tunes, as well as Mescaleros, Latino Rockabilly War, Strummer's sizable soundtrack work, and other related projects.
"It's an honor to pay homage to one of the architects of punk rock," Tai tells me this morning in the WFNX studio while he, assistant program director Mike Gioscia, and assistant music director Sabrina Boyd prepared tomorrow's playlist. "He was a soothsayer, a visionary, and Chris Kennedy's drinking buddy."
Even in 2012, the Clash are still "the only band that matters."
